Growing Young
We started our new lives as very old;
we had much we needed to learn;
though empty in knowledge and gold;
youth actually gave energy to burn.
We started this life with new identity;
with knowledge wherever we’d turn;
within us we had a natural affinity;
and a childlike ability to learn.
Our bodies were growing every day;
while our minds soaked knowledge in;
we discovered love in every way;
for our souls knew where to begin.
Though actually quite old at the start;
we’re smitten with love’s energy anew;
this life renewed our hardened heart;
then our souls became young again, too.
The physical and soul were inverse;
creating a growth cycle;
physical grew old; and the other reversed;
and the soul became more vital.
Death was the gift that ended the aging;
and brought about rebirth of life;
in such manner; with physical restaging;
our soul was cleansed of strife.
Youthful resilience, made us bold;
complex growth had strangely begun;
the very growth that made bodies old;
had, conversely, made souls young.
