Grip Of Addiction
We’re all adrift upon life’s raging seas;
constantly tossed, hither and yon;
frequently driven down to our knees;
begging that all trials be gone.
Frequently challenged to our very limit;
while seeking another way out;
seas keep tossing, and we are within it;
and that’s what addiction is about.
All that we require, is a peaceful sea;
calm waters, and blue skies above;
tho turmoil dwells deep within me;
all that I seek, is love.
Life’s storms have wreaked their incursion;
invading thoughts, I hold dear;
my addiction becomes my diversion;
one which is constantly near.
We become addicted to most anything;
whatever can make us forget;
but, whatever addictive thoughts, may bring;
they usually foster regret.
Addiction makes a captive of the mind;
and, is never willing to turn loose;
our focus in life, is then redefined;
and purpose rides in the caboose.
We keep a tight grip on whatever addicts;
tho it replaces deep thoughts above;
adding weight to more of life’s conflicts;
addiction is our substitute for love.
