Getting Even
Most everyone has been hurt by someone;
in some cases, we’re devastated;
evil has been done since time had begun;
and, getting even is complicated.
Evil is the fool, who’s not very smart;
not thinking of what lies ahead;
his actions pierce his victim’s heart;
and, all wish that evil was dead.
Some evil is even more vicious and vile;
occuring without purpose or reason;
killing with a word; wounding with a smile;
getting even, must have its own season.
Justice on the earth; doesn’t exist;
ignoring any sense of reason;
why evil deeds and thoughts persist;
everyone wants to get even.
There is no such thing as getting even;
no way in which to balance the scales;
retribution enjoys no hunting season;
just consider what getting even entails.
Someone has wronged you with an attack;
assaulting your peace and tranquility;
are you much better when you strike back;
such actions dimenish nobility.
The Master forgave evil from the cross;
does He expect us to do less;
Love willingly paid evil’s horrible cost;
forgiveness is Love’s ultimate test.
