Many like to follow in another’s footsteps;
to determine where they should go;
they feel uncomfortable following precepts;
for there’s so little wisdom we know.

But footprints leave us to doubt their nobility;
what can be learned by footsteps, found?
We can tell virtually nothing about their ability;
footprints are merely dents in the ground.

Whose footsteps are we actually following;
is there a way of determining the source?
Whose version of truth might you be swallowing;
might it be God, or an alien force?

Many of us have a somewhat natural proclivity;
to trust everything we see, read, and hear;
and, setting aside all of our critical objectivity;
we accept for truth, things we should fear.

Before we follow in the steps of another;
its of prime importance that we assess;
are they steps of an enemy or a brother;
how can footprints pass such a test?

Footsteps are often washed away by rain;
or, in winter, covered over by snow;
in either case, footprints offer no gain;
unless their Maker is someone we know.

Footsteps in thought are all we can believe;
for, by faith, are all truths discovered;
when we follow faith; it is then we succeed,
in following God’s Love, uncovered.
