Most of us spend a great many years;
to accomplish the goals we have set;
very often these efforts only bring tears;
and a heart that is filled with regret.
We trudge on, like prospectors searching,
in hope of finding that gold mine;
expecting to find that big strike, lurking;
but, to discover, you first must define.
What is that pot at the end of the rainbow;
is it a business, a house or a car?
If you don’t know where you want to go;
how can you tell where you are?
Most of us, at one time, have a mission;
though we oft cannot tell what it is;
did it come from the husband or wife’s decision;
was her planning the same as his?
Even if you uncover wealth, untold;
loaded up in an enormous sack;
no matter how much you love that Gold
that Gold can not love you back.
Someday when we reach the end of our road;
we’ll consider our “Gold” as we tarry;
then we will; our treasure unload;
for it is only ourselves they can bury.
And when we ultimately leave this place;
and love’s energy in heaven; discovered;
our lifetime of effort; ultimately disgraced;
by the fool’s gold our lives have uncovered.
