Expect It

Pride will come to one and all;
pure logic; we can’t reject it;
and, pride commeth before the fall;
we might just as well expect it.

It’s toxic, much like a disease;
but its symptoms are often subtle;
it comes upon us all with ease;
its reasons should not befuddle.

Man was not made to sit on a throne;
with power, his very soul erupts;
ultimate power is the Master’s alone;
for, absolute power, always corrupts.

Those who stand and gaze on a mirror,
are arrogant fools, we all must avoid;
for they’re the ones, we all should fear;
by such are most evil acts, deployed.

For every man is a law unto himself;
but the self, by him, shall never by tried;
all his offenses, shall be laid on a shelf;
his innocence, only by him, implied.

Many are those who seemed good and true;
standing high, above all the rest;
it appeared that only the best they imbue;
but evil was hiding under their vest.

All of God’s children must be held to account;
for we are rarely able, ourselves, to confide;
all powers should be of a very limited amount;
to defend against their evil, hiding inside.
