Doubt

Why are many people so dissatisfied;
that it causes others to lament?
Evil has somehow become glorified;
we live in a world of discontent.

Many have embraced a godlessness;
thinking what’s done, doesn’t matter;
fewer, each year, seek righteousness;
their lives have become a ladder.

Most pay homage to a ladder of success;
they feel obliged to climb;
ignoring all thoughts of holiness;
they simply won’t take the time.

Honor and honesty seem rather quaint;
today, they are no longer required;
few want to become friends with a saint;
rogues are more often admired.

Truth and honor are no longer our standard;
we’re willing to put up with lies;
people have come to expect being pandered;
honesty comes as a welcome surprise.

Many have become so overladen with guilt;
the straight arrows of life hide their views;
willing to hide the reputation they’ve built;
not wanting to be thought goody two shoes.

Suddenly, reality is turned upside down;
the world; turned inside out;
heroes of yesterday; became the clown;
when faith was replaced by doubt.
