Diminishing Candle
I feel so empty and somewhat defeated;
depressed, by a world gone dark;
as division and hate; become deep-seated;
this life is no walk in the park.
I write thoughts; attempting to be a candle;
shining the bright light of the truth;
but loneliness makes it so difficult to handle;
and the enemy is arrogant and aloof.
The serpent of evil has seized all control;
demanding that all just go along;
destruction of innocence is their goal;
as they sing their siren song.
The winds of war are generated by pride;
swirling with hate and division;
but, wars aren’t external; they begin inside;
once we accept truth’s revision.
The children of love, are candles of light;
as evil plots their annihilation;
love’s flame flickers, in the winds of night;
as evil proclaims, discrimination.
The evil one loves to hate and divide;
proclaiming universal victimhood;
love is the conscience to be our guide;
evil pretends he’s misunderstood.
I am just a diminishing candle; bearing light;
my words; now whispers; once a shout;
my love, overwhelmed by the darkness of night;
division can make every light go out.
