Death By Surrender

My body has suffered the atrocities of life;
and, is now in a weakened condition;
in addition, then came the death of my wife;
I suspect I’ll eventually die of attrition.

As we age, we feel we are going downhill;
our death appears looming in sight;
much like a roller coaster; without its thrill;
death is envisioned in moonlight.

Every life is a candle, burning bright;
flickering to signify its doubt;
candlelight softens the darkness of night;
never allow your flame to go out.

Everyone must treat death as an adversary;
the righteous must never surrender;
in the fight for life; you must be contrary;
to win; you must be a contender.

We were born; gifted for a special purpose;
although many never learn why;
in the essence of time; all gifts will surface;
it’s best we hold on; and not die.

The soul is ageless; tho the body grows old;
most seeds are planted, when young;
in the essence of time; we must become bold;
for our harvest is yet to come.

When we rationalize the human condition;
we’ve become just a great pretender;
whenever anyone accepts death by attrition;
it amounts to death by surrender.
