Character Actor

I’ve been many things; all rolled into one;
some led to success; others, disaster;
mostly oblivious to how it all had become;
in life; I’m a character actor.

I crawled onto life’s stage as a tiny baby;
insignificant in every way;
my future roles, uncertain; mostly maybe;
my dues; I had to pay.

As a child, I remained in the background;
tho trying to gain attention;
I was never a star; merely hanging around;
as tho living in another dimension.

If only I’d seen myself as others had seen;
I’d never have sought a leading role;
tho I was the lead actor in my own dream;
it was never to be the director’s goal.

When I saw myself through others eyes;
I began to see a different me;
imagine my astonishment; my surprise;
to see what I’d come to be.

The character I thought was to be magnificent;
was just another face on life’s street;
my many life roles made me insignificant;
where destiny and circumstance meet.

As a last resort; I turned to the Master;
seeking guidance from above;
I was assured my career wasn’t a disaster;
I was created to share God’s love.
