The Master was emphatic that we not judge;
declaring Perfection should throw the first stone;
on that occaision; no one would budge;
and the sinner was left standing alone.
Curious, how little we’ve absorbed his word;
given so very many lifetimes ago.
His modern followers seem not to have heard;
for faithful believers are the first to throw.
All of us having fallen short of Perfection;
and our character still filled with pride;
overcome by a greater fear of rejection;
casts the stones, meant for us, aside.
Then, we suddenly picked them back up;
for they still stood as evidence against us;
such a mild defense, was not enough;
those stones of guilt, must be thrust.
Other targets could always be found;
for none had ever reached perfection;
and, all we need do, was to look around;
for sin can never avoid detection.
It’s usually the one with the most to hide;
whether in a group, or standing alone;
and that is the one with sufficient pride,
that eventually casts the first stone.
Once, the prideful; that first stone had cast;
the pressure was off all the others;
the most cowardly; from first to the last;
threw stones at their sisters and brothers.
