Blessed By Failure

Most of us dream of a life of success;
enjoying the fruits of our labor;
we seldom anticipate times of duress;
dreaming to live in God’s favor.

We live, as though, this is all there is;
we have but one bite of the apple;
tho the Master has claimed us as his;
it’s too deep a concept to grapple.

Love involves both pain and pleasure;
many expect success to come easy;
some expect to live lives of leisure;
failures make them queasy.

Failures are the foundations for success;
easy success leads only to pride;
all must learn from sorrows and duress;
we live; because our Master died.

Yet; from pain, we seek an exemption;
dreaming of success, instead;
pain is the ultimate price of redemption;
faith, without works, is dead.

We pray, to our Lord, to become blessed;
anticipating heaven’s streets of gold;
when God answers by giving us a test;
we’re shocked; to find we are old.

Success only leads to pride and defeat;
our sins; we’re often suppressing;
only, in failure; do we become meek;
failure was my greatest blessing.
