Be Careful What You Ask For

Whatever blessings we’re given in life;
most of us always want more;
most blessings are accompanied by strife;
so, be careful what you ask for.

We see others enjoy fruits of their labor;
wishing we could be in their place;
often jealous that God shows them favor;
their blessings; a sign of God’s grace.

We usually see them in times of glory;
thinking they have it made;
yet, we fail to see the rest of the story;
not knowing the price, they paid.

If we could visit their seasons of pain;
we might be in shock and awe;
life is hard work; loss becomes gain;
before you run; you must crawl.

All were born with a gift, or talent;
not knowing what it might be;
some are slovenly; others, gallant;
I can’t be you; you can’t be me.

Upon every rose; is found a thorn;
protection; is the thorn’s duty;
the same is true of each child born;
thorns protect love’s beauty.

Love is God’s greatest blessing in life;
no talent or gift can bring more;
the gift given from husband to wife;
so, be careful who you ask for.
