Autumn Leaves

Some think that life’s a competition;
to separate good, better and best;
but life is truly a war of attrition;
dividing those who learn from the rest.

Life isn’t about whether we win or lose;
it’s far more complex than that.
Life is determined by the road we choose;
once we take it we cannot turn back.

We were all created in the world of thought;
and sent to this realm for enhancement.
Lessons our souls from this world brought;
determine our decline or advancement.

For each road has its own lessons to teach
and we choose the lessons we need most;
in a physical realm we should implore and beseech ;
that others not be tempted to boast.

For when we choose to feather our nest,
we’re announcing how little we’ve succeeded;
and to merely get angry and lodge a protest;
we will find those lessons repeated.

This world throws kisses at honesty;
and always grants loyalty a hug;
it also shows great favor to generosity;
and turns its back on the smug.

The Master teaches us to love all others,
that’s how all the world must be;
for all love I give to my sisters and brothers,
is what ultimately returns to me.
