Apprentice To Life

Every trade requires a specialized training;
from the brick layer to the dentist;
learning often leads some to complaining;
such is the life of an apprentice.

Most never realize who and what they are;
thinking they’re in control;
by their own volition; they can go very far;
while God is teaching the soul.

It’s a strange way to think about life;
look around; you know that it’s true;
reaping a harvest, in the midst of strife;
while the heart has the perfect view.

We’re each one an apprentice to the Master;
learning to march in a parade;
we either become a layman or a pastor;
but it all is just a charade.

We’re all in training to become a servant;
for it is our highest call;
truth is taught to those most observant;
while fools are known to fall.

When earth’s prodigals begin to grow old;
and knowledge has reached its sum;
teachings of the Master become more bold;
wisdom becoming the curriculum

The family teaches how to serve others;
and the love of husband and wife;
we are servants to all sisters and brothers;
indentured to serve for life.
