Afraid To Love

Life is a mixture of challenge and leisure;
a mysterious energy, created above;
the ebb and flow of heartaches and pleasure;
all brought together for love.

Loneliness is life’s most toxic season;
no one is happy; when alone;
love welcomes in, voices of reason;
out of fear; none can atone;

I hold my feelings, close to the breast;
afraid of what others might think;
the ability to love; life’s greatest test;
hearts, together; beating in sync.

I feel such deep loneliness; every day;
unable to let my feelings come out;
embarrassed to think what others say;
my dream love, canceled by doubt.

The mirror shows me what others see;
when they look upon my face;
I’m unimpressed, by that which is me;
I only live by God’s grace.

I’ll never know what others might say;
for I’ll never give them the chance;
I’m too old for love to come my way;
so I’ll never ask my love to dance.

I find myself living without my dream;
tho I still pray to God above;
the love of my life, must remain unseen;
since I am afraid to love.
