A Walk In The Snow

A Walk In The Snow

I vividly remember on a cold winter’s day;
I’d walked so far; with a long way to go;
thru deep snow, I’d trudged, quite a long way;
it began as a mere walk in the snow.

I carried my newspapers over my shoulder;
to deliver to customers on my route;
I thought I’d freeze; it couldn’t be colder.
my fingers so cold; I could shout.

My route was both sides of Main Street;
extending a mile long; on each side;
I felt like quitting and admiting defeat;
snow; too deep, for a bicycle ride.

My fingers were numb; my steps, slow;
freezing winds, buffeted my face;
reaching halfway; only half more to go;
and then, I could find a warm place.

I’d finished my route, on that winter day;
enduring my hardships alone;
I learned that hardships had their own say;
but, hardships brought me back home.

Life, on earth, is that cold winter’s day;
no matter what be the season;
many give up; and tragedy has its way;
tho none will ever know the reason.

I shall never forget that cold winter’s day;
it’s an illusion of what life’s all about;
for, it’s all about loving and learning to obey;
the only way we can learn, is find out.
