A Valentine Gift

I lapsed into sleep; though still awake;
and reality’s being, hastily flashed on;
totally confused by reality’s mistake;
it seemed I had entered a new dawn.

I found myself in another place;
not quite realizing where I was;
somewhere, within thought’s space;
I had become there, just because.

My mind’s eye flashed open, suddenly;
from deep sleep I had descended;
displaying a bizarre illusion to see;
reality, itself, was suspended.

At first glance, I spied a woman nearby;
a heavenly host with a familiar face;
it all happened so quickly, I couldn’t cry;
it was a woman; death had replaced.

Her ghostly appearance, took time to behold;
I was stunned beyond apprehension;
she had just stepped out of perfection’s mold;
and entered within this dimension.

I cannot explain just why that I know;
she was not an illusion; but real;
she had left this life, a long time ago;
but her energies, today I could feel.

She had spent many years, married to me;
and I had thought she was gone;
she re-entered life’s portal so I could see;
the perfection in her had lived on.
