A Teeter-Totter Called Life
As a child I played on the playground at recess;
a welcome break from learning time;
a teeter-totter provided a respite from stress;
an experience, most sublime.
It seemed a curious device; on which we played;
not knowing it had a deeper meaning;
within its up and down; a truth was arrayed;
a picture of failures and succeeding.
As in life; your effort could push you up high;
as your opponent pushed; doing the same;
that up and then down; became like, live or die;
demonstrating life, in a game.
The game seemed a harmless form of competition;
till one, weighing more; kept the other up high;
like life; it became a battle of an endless repetition;
each hoping to make the other one cry.
The best result was when both were equal;
neither lifted up; or brought down;
competition was a balance; a repetitive sequel;
both could laugh; and not frown.
Life must be balanced; to be enjoyed;
we can’t remain too high; nor low;
gravity, by the Master, will be employed;
ups and downs; help us to grow.
The lesson learned is easy, for all to see;
missed only by a fool or clown;
life requires a balance for both you and me;
what goes up; must always come down.
