A Sword, Unsheathed

A sword is a weapon often used for killing;
sometimes when merely fighting duels;
unsheathed, it stands ready, for those willing;
a form of combat, reserved for fools.

In history, it’s a symbol of preparation to fight;
a willingness to risk death; in order to kill;
never really proving whose wrong, or right;
only demonstrating a combatant’s skill.

Today, the sword is a weapon, most cumbersome;
unable to compete with a knife or a gun;
in a close up fight, it’s terribly lumbersome;
before you know it; the other guy won.

Many and varied, are the weapons of war;
which are now settling a personal dispute;
which isn’t at all what they are meant for;
to be used, mostly, by those of ill-repute.

Today, speech is the new personal weapon;
denigration; the amunition of choice;
to those who disagree, evil will beckon;
castigating them, thru its loud voice.

Division has built thick walls of separation;
to protect the weak from differing thought;
any differences, they call disinformation;
we’re to believe, what the powerful taught.

A sword of destruction hangs over our head;
unsheathed, and held by those in control;
many of them wishing we were all dead;
they don’t seek our heart; but our soul.
