A Servant’s Love

If I could cause, just one person to smile;
it would be well worth my  pain;
I could endure my sadness for quite a while;
if my sorrows can lead to their gain.

If I could lift the spirits of someone sad;
and share the energy called love;
their disappointments wouldn’t be so bad;
just knowing there’s a heaven above.

If I had the authority to end all depression;
I’d give that pronouncement my seal;
if everyone could love without exception;
all love would have universal appeal.

If I could just do each one of these things;
becoming like God would be my role;
Eternal life is what righteousness brings;
and Love is the oxygen of the soul.

Everyone is born with a standing life sentence;
their death has been preordained;
only because we’ve expressed our repentence;
has the Master’s wrath been restrained.

Only the fool tries to take God’s place;
no soul can stand in God’s stead;
for, if not for the Master’s saving grace;
such fools would truly be dead.

And Yet, the earth is filled with such fools;
those who stray from the Master’s path;
arrogance tempts they make their own rules;
incurring the Master’s wrath.

If only I could, each day, share my love;
my sadness and tears would drown;
for I’m just a servant sent from above;
only the Master is fit for a crown;
