A Price Too Great

“Everyone has their price,” it’s been said;
a statement defining corruption;
a measure of evil, in all, has been bred;
it seems a logical deduction.

It implies that all can be bought and sold;
there are none righteous; not even one;
all; compromised by the promise of gold;
and, so it’s been, since time had begun.

Some will turn their head, for a slight reward;
others, demand rewards, greater;
even more surrender, at the tip of a sword;
some even become a traitor.

Honor has never been sold for a price;
such logic is most plain to see;
God’s commandments are not advice;
but, statements of what must be.

All tend to grow wiser, as they grow old;
knowledge is a river, flowing;
wisdom is greater than silver or gold;
life is grasses growing.

All things, in life, have a price or cost;
nothing in life is free;
something is gained; something, lost;
guilt is life’s debris.

“Everyone has their price,” it’s been said;
their guilt stumbles in, too late;
a measure of evil, in all, has been bred;
your soul is a price too great.
