A Most Precious Freedom

A Most Precious Freedom

Many think that our freedom of speech;
is our most precious freedom of all;
since, through our voice, we can teach;
preventing that our nation would fall.

But, speech, itself, has become expanded;
to include words we’ve authored in print;
thru political ads we’re now reprimanded;
words are now like gold bars in the mint.

We’ve never been allowed to be totally free;
we couldn’t shout, “fire”; in a crowd;
vulgarity, placed me over my father’s knee;
and I dare not swear out loud.

Much has changed; most words are fair game;
thoughts; the new target; instead of a word;
what was meant; calling someone a name;
restricting our thoughts; seemed absurd.

And, so we approach the height of absurdity;
we speculate, to what one’s thinking;
only a profligate, prepossessed by nurdity;
would judge; but, only when drinking.

Will we spy on thoughts in future technology;
it seems like a mere matter of time;
advancements are made by effort and chronology;
all words shall become thoughts, sublime.

Thoughts would be like words; spoken out loud;
closing one’s mouth offers no protection;
the infinity of thoughts; all stored on the cloud;
lying is impossible, in a world of perfection.
