A Long Winding Road
My life was meant to be, a long winding road;
climbing from a chasm; in a valley, below;
my luggage of failures was a most heavy load;
but, I needed to carry them; to grow.
I thought that the road was a physical place;
but, it was only a creation of my mind;
my entire journey didn’t require any space;
my thoughts; each a twist of the Divine.
The mind may go wherever it chooses;
there is no valley too low;
it’s awake, while consciousness snoozes;
seeking what it wants to know.
Evil is destined to be part of each trip;
for we each share evil’s inclination;
all must be sure our faith doth equip;
that evil not become our destination.
In the beginning I was filled with desire;
ambition, rising to the fore;
seeking to be king of my own empire;
forever demanding more.
Yet, I heard destiny whisper in my ear;
that all empires are vastly overated;
the road that I traveled held much to fear;
but, all egos must be deflated.
Near journey’s end; I lost all I would own;
only their memories will follow above;
for, all things physical were mine on loan;
the only thing permanent is Love.
