A Crown Of Thorns

What crown would befit the king of kings;
you would think it be one full of jewels;
but, what is the image such a crown brings;
impressing the most audacious fools.

The crown is a symbol of complete authority;
to which; all must bow or kneel;
a sign of wisdom, and total superiority;
commanding universal appeal.

Every king is chosen by the road he’s taken;
many become king through birth;
by those, most loathsome; truth is forsaken;
lineage, alone, doesn’t equate worth.

The crown is the symbol of absolute rule;
not to be entrusted to a mere child;
sometimes the crown is symbolic of a fool;
evidence of a kingdom gone wild.

The Romans thought Jesus was just a man;
those thorns were meant to cause pain;
not knowing that Jesus was God; the I Am;
over death; God’s authority would reign.

Thorns are symbolic of tragedies of life;
inflicting the body with pain;
whether emotional; or to cut by a knife;
from tragedy; God brings gain.

The stem on the rose is guarded by thorns;
in the heavenly garden above;
success on earth is diminished by storms;
arrogance is the enemy of love.
