A Child’s Expectation

We began our life with a child’s expectation;
not comprehending what lay ahead;
charting our course; in search of salvation;
often losing our way; instead.

Death began his inexorable journey at birth;
the final resting place for one and all;
the choices, we make; determine our worth;
our future is at death’s beck and call.

We seem to be led by a mysterious guide;
a demon or angel; without a face;
we must learn to put all our troubles aside;
for we are God’s children of grace.

Yet, most of us choose to go on our own;
pride becomes a relentless master;
forgetting that earth is so far from home;
arrogance leads to disaster.

All of us were given talents to discover;
handed down from our Father above;
in marriage; a gift; greater than all other;
God’s ultimate gift of love.

Unfortunately; most seek only to receive;
though love is the gift to be given;
faith is the power, by which we believe;
through faith; all are forgiven.

We began our life with a child’s expectation;
not understanding life’s purpose;
charting our course; in search of salvation;
we see love is our greatest service.
